What We Do
In
business since 1993, Personal
Best Running Programs, LLC is a small company dedicated to helping
Kansas City area runners achieve personal running success. We offer group running programs that provide runners the opportunity to;
-- improve technique
-- increase distance
-- run faster
-- make new friends
-- reduce body fat
-- improve fitness
-- HAVE FUN!
Group runs take place on varied and interesting routes in the greater Kansas City area.
Our Winter/Spring
2008 program began January
12th and will continue through the end of May. The program will
provide training for various Spring marathons and half-marathons, as well as
fitness running and shorter races. Included in the program will
be:
- Group runs every Saturday morning ("long" runs). The start times on Saturdays
vary depending on run distance that day, location, etc, but are typically between 6 am and 7 am.
- Weekday evening group runs (speed training)
Our group runs are fully supported with maps, mile markers, corner markers, and aid stations (water,
Powerade, etc) every 2 miles. We meet in different locations around the city to keep it interesting.
We provide training schedules, handouts, clinics and on-going coaching.
Entries are limited to the first 125 registrations. This facilitates personalized coaching for all.
It's not too late to join. See the Training Schedules page for information on where/when we're meeting for group runs, and come on out. If you're new to Personal Best, we'd like to offer you a free trial run; come on out and join us for a free run!

Founded in 1993, Personal Best is a labor of love for Steve and Cynthia Hinman. They saw a need in the Kansas City area for a structured running/marathon training group. In the past twelve years, Steve and Cynthia have trained over 1,500 people to complete marathons -- for many their first marathon. Steve is a licensed Physical Therapist and Personal Trainer. He has coached adult runners, triathletes, cyclists and strength athletes for over 20 years.
What Do Our Customers Say About Personal Best?
"When
my friend talked me into joining Personal Best, I did not believe that running
even a half-marathon was a goal I could ever obtain. I just wanted an
excuse to get my "arse" off the couch and lose some weight.
Thanks to your program, I've lost 52 pounds and reached my goal weight of
175. In addition, what seemed impossible has been obtained and is now even
enjoyed."

"Personal Best is simply The Best! Steve and Cynthia create an environment for training that satisfies all one's needs! There is no better way to start your day!"
-- Mike B.
"I've always said that a good
coach should produce beneficial reactions to training and help create positive
race results. You and your program really do that! Thanks for
helping me reach a goal I had always dreamed of - qualifying for the Boston
Marathon!"
-- Mark G.
"It's great being part of a program that accommodates all running abilities. If you're a 13-minute miler or a 7-minute miler, there's a place for you. If you're new to running, coming back from an injury, or want to improve your performance, you're just as important as the top runners in the Personal Best program. The breakfasts are a lot of fun too!!"
-- Mary S.
"Running a marathon has been a goal of mine for a very long time. My friends introduced me to the Personal Best Running group and with the support of the other runners, the structured training program and the special interest in helping me manage my insulin-dependent diabetes, my goal of running a marathon was met. I couldn't have done it without them and what an awesome experience it was - I am ready to train for the next one."
-- Cary

"I joined Personal Best
almost three years ago to train for my first marathon and really enjoy running
with the group. Steve and Cynthia have great enthusiasm, support and a
sincere desire to help each individual achieve their running goals. The
Saturday long runs and weekly speed work intervals allowed me to achieve a
personal best marathon this fall. I have met many great people who are now
good friends. There is no better way to begin your Saturday morning."
--
Matt D.
"I trained for my first two marathons with Steve and Cynthia and finished successfully! The courses are great with lots of variety. I found the speed training sessions very beneficial. The best part about Personal Best is the friends you look forward to seeing every Saturday
morning."
-- Kristen H.
