Do you enjoy running?  Would you like to train for a marathon or half-marathon? Do you enjoy meeting new people? Personal Best could be the place for you!  We are a very welcoming group where runners of all abilities can feel comfortable.  


What We Do
In business since 1993, Personal Best Running Programs, LLC is a dedicated to helping Kansas City area runners achieve running and fitness success, and has a reputation as one of the most supportive and personable running groups in the area.  We offer group running programs that provide runners the opportunity to;
-- improve technique
-- increase distance
-- run faster
-- make new friends
-- reduce body fat
-- improve fitness
-- HAVE FUN!
Group runs take place on varied and interesting routes in the greater Kansas City area.


Free Saturday runs this summer    These "Show and Go" group runs are being offered every Saturday between June 12 and July 31 at 6:30 a.m. from the Metro Walk & Run store at 95th and Metcalf.  This is a great way to maintain your running fitness over the summer or get a head start training for your fall races by trying out one of the friendliest running groups in Kansas City.  Click here for more details.  


The Fall 2010 program will begin August 7th and continue through November 13th.  This program will provide training for various Fall races including:

Fitness running and shorter races are also supported!!  

Included in the program:  
- Group runs every Saturday morning ("long" runs). The start times on Saturdays vary depending on run distance that day, location, etc, but are typically between 6 am and 7 am. 
- Tuesday evening group runs (speed training
- Free flexibility/strength screening for each runner 
- Free body fat measurement for each runner 
- Free clinics on running-related topics 

Our group runs are fully supported with maps, mile markers, corner markers, and aid stations (water, Powerade, etc) every 2 miles. We meet in different locations around the city to keep it interesting.

We provide training schedules, handouts, clinics and on-going coaching. 

Entries are limited to the first 125 registrations.  This facilitates personalized coaching for all.  

The cost is $150 (includes everything!)

Who We Are

Founded in 1993 by Steve Hinman, Personal Best has trained thousands of local runners for marathons and half-marathons.  Steve is a licensed Physical Therapist and Personal Trainer. He has coached adult runners, triathletes, cyclists and strength athletes for over 25 years.

Amy Parkerson-Mitchell, who will be the coach and director of Personal Best effective June 1, 2010, is a licensed physical therapist.  She earned her Masters degree from the University of Kansas and specializes in orthopedic and sports rehabilitation.  Amy's expertise, enthusiasm and passion for running help others reach their goals.  As an avid runner, she has run many marathons including Chicago and Boston and is proud to be a part of the Personal Best family.
